Tommi Toija

participant Terra 30! duo expo Marc Janssens & Tommi Toija
Tommi Toija’s (born 1974) poetic world, which began with the ‘Pikkupelkuri’, ‘Little Coward’ work, speaks of everything which is natural and everyday. Small boys and girls and little old men with short legs, a large head and round eyes show immediately recognisable feelings of joy and sadness, disappointment and obstinacy. Their activities vary: they stick out their tongue, spit, stand in a puddle of urine, and blow bubblegum. Searching for answers to the question of why we have lost sight of individuality in our globalised world, he creates figures which evoke a smile while also encouraging reflection.
