Ann van Hoey

Ann van Hoey, inspired by the Japanese art of paper folding, displays bowls in the natural shades of clay, and also a number of brightly colored bowls sprayed with automotive paint, a reference to the refinement of Japanese lacquerware.

Her bowl shapes are based on a hemisphere that she cuts and places on top of each other. Nowadays she uses a varied color palette in pastels. Her technique is great; every piece is perfect. Light and shadow enhance the sharp lines on the matte shapes.

Ann won many awards all over the world as mentioned: 2018 Loewe Craft Prize Finalist 2016 8th Talent Award, ‘Focus Vessel’, Keramikmuseum Westerwald (D) 2015 Prize at the ‘Premio Faenza’, Faenza, Italië 2014 ‘Ceramics of Europe – 2014’, Keramikmuseum Westerwald (D) 2013 2nd prize Cheongju Craft Biennale 2013, Korea 2013 Emerging Artist Peoples Choice Contest’; Ceramics Monthly 2012 honorable mention; Taiwan Ceramics Biennale, Taipei 2011 honorable mention; 9th Int.
