Mieke de Groot:
“Structures in tints of blue”
Following the solo exhibition of three years ago and her participation in the group exhibit ‘Terra in China-China in Terra’, the most recent objects by Mieke will be shown in Terra Delft Gallery from October 10 – November 14.
Her abstract, mathematically-constructed objects emerge, as always, from the characteristic principle of repetition of the parts. This means that her artwork can also consist of different individual sections which together show a certain symmetry. Most important is that the logic of the composition must be visible. Concerning proportions and their relation to each other, she follows the general laws of nature. By effecting small alterations, such as shifting or turning, the strict form is broken and graceful, elegant objects emerge.
These rules of nature correspond to a natural process of growth, whereby her objects call to mind associations with fruit, flowers or shells.
In addition to the facets we recognize from her earlier work, she has now found other forms with which to project her preference for order and structure. Within the limitations of the rules of nature, Mieke experiences a freedom that grants her a wide range of possibilities.
Already for many years!
