From May 30 through June 27 Beatrijs van Rheeden will exhibit her porcelain objects at Terra Delft Gallery. See Beatrijs at work:

Her work is rooted in a Dutch tradition of abstract forms, with pure lines and simplicity in essence. It comes into being intuitively. Her fascination with structures and their internal irregularities is expressed at millimeter scale. In her slicing process you can discover Arabic geometric patterns.

Beatrijs enjoys looking at other artists with similar fascinations, such as Hitomi Hosono, a Japanese ceramicist who also slices in porcelain. Her work is a representation of an existing flower and plant world. Both of them are captivated by growth, by structures in flora and fauna.

The tactile quality that was so evident in her squeezed work is also present in her new objects, in every cut that must be just so. She responds to the challenge of the porcelain material.

Her artist-in-residence period in Sanbao/Jingdezhen (China) is reflected in the forms she chooses and in a certain sense of proportion. The time spent in the ceramic work studio there made a deep impression: from working with the grey and sometimes dirty-seeming Chinese clay mass which nevertheless resulted in gorgeous porcelain, to the skilled artisan mastery which plays a natural, obvious role in the society.
