The winner of the second edition of the Delft Ceramics Days 2023 is Margot Thyssen. Part of this prize is this solo exhibition at Terra Delft Gallery.

Margot mainly works with porcelain to realize her creations. She makes both unique pieces and utility ceramics. Her technique is called 'slip casting' in which she makes combinations in soft pastel colors and strives for perfection in the execution. This exhibition shows the works with which she won the prize in 2023; the 'Lines' series. This is a series of consumer goods in brightly colored porcelain made in thin layers.

In the meantime, Thyssen has continued to develop her 'slip casting' techniques. And now, in her solo exhibition at Galerie Terra Delft, she shows her most recent creations; the 'Spectrum' series. This is a high-quality example of porcelain casting technique; Different colors can be seen both in the view from the side and in the view from above. Bringing together every shade of color in every horizontal ring requires great expertise and precision.

In the 'Spectrum' series, the color combinations are softer than before but still pronounced. The user function has become subordinate, the play of the color areas is what matters. The craftsmanship shown demands respect and admiration and translates the goal of the maker; the urge to create beautiful objects that the public can enjoy.

Finally, her 'Suprème' series consists of white porcelain with a dark blue edge. The white surface is grooved, allowing light to shine through the deeper parts. This series of utensils consists of various bowls and dishes that can be combined with each other.

This exhibition shows an impressive level of slip casting technique in porcelain. Margot Thyssen is a worthy winner of Delft Ceramics Days, where quality and diversity always come first at the annual market in the last weekend of June!
