We will close the first part of the year with work from the British artist who makes very earthy bowls and vases, partly wheel-thrown and partly hand-built. His beautiful sculptures are based on the traditional ceramics of functional pieces.
Higgins’ work reveals a profound interest in archeology, but architecture is a source of inspiration as well. Higgins spent three months in Australia in 2014 as an artist in residence, and this work period also inspired him through the landscape and its colours. His bowls in dark shades are enlivened by spatters of bright colors, which serve to lighten the heaviness of the object. He decorates with slips, stains and oxides.
For many years, he has had frequent exhibitions in Great Britain and has become a greatly-prized ceramics teacher. We are proud to bring this artist’s work to the Netherlands.
