Blue Memory in Delft

The first copy of the publication Blue Memory is handed over to the Mayor of Delft, Bas Verkerk. This booklet (English/Chinese) is published by the Terra Delft Gallery and Jackson Li.

Delft is known as the city of the world famous Delft blue ceramics. The origin of the Delft blue is the blue decorated white porcelain from Jingdezhen in China. The also in Delft well-known artist (Jackson) Li Jiansheng comes from Jingdezhen and in the fall of 2013, by invitation of the Terra Delft Gallery, Li realised two projects in Delft. A portrait project with Delft blue painted plates and a project with turned bowls with a typical Chinese glaze; the celadon glaze. All made in Delft by Chinese hands. The Delft blue portrait of the Mayor of Delft was the start off a serie of hand-painted portrait plates.

The publication Blue Memory is the report of both projects and shows the vision of artist and gallery on how the historical tradition to be followed up in contemporary art. The results of the projects are displayed in Terra Delft Gallery in May 2014 will they be shown at the international art fair COLLECT in the Saatchi Gallery in London. Jackson Li is a phenomenon in China and in the global ceramics world; his work is also known in America and Australia.
