I am very proud to have been invited to show in this amazing museum: Keramion Thank you Gudrun Schmidt-Esters for initiating this project and very happy that the new directors of the museum, Christine Otto M.A.and Klaus Gutowski, held on to the plan. It was great working with you!
The project was to enable me to show the scope of my, now three decades, research into the depths of the "simple" ceramic vessel and its image. The jar and the bowl as archetypal forms, I felt, and still do, that they go a lot deeper than we can imagine. What a major cultural change that must have been when we began to be able to store and share food in those basic clay forms.
As documented at the exhibition in the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden, Leiden NL, at the beginning of the nineties, without in any way being unhappy with the work he was making, he slipped into a new space. His work almost lost a complete dimension. Looking back it seems that something shifted, it shifted from him trying to copy the work he liked so much to more the idea of them and all the beauty and shortcomings of clay water and fire. Instead of imitating he was re-presenting. The exhibition runs till the end of August 2023
